The Jewish mystical tradition (Kabbalah) tells us: When your mind is on Godly things, then, Godly things more easily enter your mind.
That is how we grow as Jews, by inviting Godly things into our minds and into our lives, moment by moment.
It's not freaky - It's natural. The Jews have an affinity for this kind of connection. History shows us this, and we sense it in our hearts.
The connection and interaction betweeen God and the Jews is ever-present and ever-strong. And when you put your thoughts on matters of God, you strengthen it even more. That is how you draw more Godliness (Kedushah) into this world.
And we need a lot of Kedushah and "God-thinking" in our world today to offset the incredible amount of evil and agitation we see around us.
In a very real way, the solution to many world problems is in our hands. Each of us can fix up our little corner of the world, one good deed, and one good thought at a time.
It works -- the goodness you generate emanates to those around you.
YOU'RE A HERO
And you are the "hero" of your world. You are the most powerful person in your personal world who is able to make a difference and change things for the better.
When you do it with God in mind your abilities increase dramatically. That is how you strengthen your Jewish Future -- By adding goodness you move towards a better future for yourself and for the world society.
And the present world is ripe for improvement. Actually, screaming for improvement as you can see from the unsettling news headlines at the right. These are from several years ago. Has the situation improved?
What tools do we have to set this world straight? On the societal level we have laws & prisons, governments & armies.
But on the individual level we have a more subtle set of tools. The tools available to a God-concious mind.
THE GENEROUS MIND
The purpose of this site is not to make everyone a Rabbi. The goal is to remind our readers that we're all able to make a difference in the world community.
For starters, let's practice generosity:
- Be generous with your thoughts as you think well of other people.
- Be generous with your words as you find ways to encourage other people while you steer clear of gossip and lies
- Be generous with your possessions and money to whatever degree you're able
Try adding generous thoughts, words and deeds. God knows what you're up to and he'll make it come out right. He can do it. He's God.
Far from being a dreamy bunch of wanderers, "God-brains" are focussed on helping others, adding goodness, maintaining their patience and warmth while being trustworthy and honest.
BE AN ACTIVIST
It's very Jewish to be an activist. First activate yourself. Wherever you find yourself in the Jewish spectrum, there is something you can add to improve the Jewish Future.
As said above, when your mind is on Godly things, then, Godly things more easily enter your mind -- and you draw Godly, holy "Kedushah" from very high places to this world. That's the essential ingredient to really make a difference.
What's the alternative? Disaster.
If no one will be kind to their neighbor, if no one will add goodness to the world community, we can only expect greed and self-serving behaviors. We see enough of it around today.
It's sad and bitter.
DON'T BOTHER ME
True, there are kind, thoughtful people all around. But it's not enough for a Jew to "be a good person". Our charge, and therefore, our opportunity is to draw Kedushah down into this world by conciously including God in our mental process. And part of being "A Light to the Nations" is to make a concious decision to cultivate a stronger God-centered life.
So, whatever you enjoy doing, now do it knowing you're with God as you drive around, dance around, sing, party, whatever.
God is "in" to you. He made you and sees fit to keep you around. He wants a relationship with His people. He wants you to relate to Him.
How? The Kabbalah tells us each Jew is performing some unique spiritual task. The exact role we play is part of the "backstage" activities we can't know. But we do know that every Jew is part of a vast tapestry of people, their ancestors, previous incarnations & ultimate spiritual completion.
So, live inspired, help to fix up the world, and have a better Jewish Future. You can.
